Degrees Celsius (°C)

The Celsius scale places 0 °C at the freezing point of water and 100 °C at its boiling point at standard pressure. It is the everyday temperature scale in almost every country.

Degrees Fahrenheit (°F)

On the Fahrenheit scale water freezes at 32 °F and boils at 212 °F. It remains the standard scale for weather and cooking in the United States.

Kelvin (K)

The kelvin is the SI base unit of temperature. It starts at absolute zero and uses the same degree size as Celsius, so 0 K equals −273.15 °C.

Degrees Rankine (°R)

Rankine is an absolute scale that uses Fahrenheit-sized degrees. It starts at absolute zero, so 0 °R equals −459.67 °F.

Degrees Réaumur (°Ré)

The Réaumur scale sets water’s freezing point at 0 °Ré and its boiling point at 80 °Ré. It is largely historical but survives in some cheese and syrup making.
